UfM Secretariat joins IEMed in the commemoration of its 25th anniversary
UfM Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Yigit Alpogan, participated in the 25th Anniversary Event of the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), which took place on 25 June 2014, at the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya.
UfM Deputy Secretary General Alpogan highlighted the important role IEMed plays in Euro-Mediterranean relations and expressed his gratitude for its valuable contribution to the operational work of the UfM Secretariat: “Since its very inception, IEMed has shared with other important institutions the aim to construct a space for peace and stability in the Mediterranean, a space for shared prosperity and dialogue between cultures and civilizations. Standing at the forefront of the efforts to strengthen the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, this institution has always strived to foster mutual understanding as well as economic, social and cultural exchanges between both shores of the Mediterranean.”
The anniversary event was chaired by the President of the Government of Catalonia, Artur Mas. Among the participants to the event were Senén Florensa, Executive President of IEMed; Gabriel Busquets, Ambassador of the Special Mission for Mediterranean Affairs; Jordi Pujol, former President of the Government of Catalonia when IEMed was created; and Xavier Trias, Mayor of Barcelona.
