Working session with French Minister Marylise Lebranchu at the premises of the Union for the Mediterranean

Economic Development and Employment

Barcelona, 23 November, 2012. – UfM Secretary General Sijilmassi welcomed on 23 November 2012 the French Minister of Administrative Reform, Decentralization and the Civil Service, Marylise Lebranchu, at the premises of the Union for the Mediterranean, in Barcelona. Both parties discussed ways and means to strengthen the cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean. They agreed on the importance of delivering projects that respond to the needs of the Mediterranean populations in terms of job creation and socio-economic development.

Secretary General Sijilmassi briefed the Minister on the state of play of the Secretariat’s work on several key economic sectors for the future of the region and on projects and initiatives such as the Mediterranean Initiative for Jobs (Med4jobs), the Trans Maghreb Motorway, the desalination facility for the Gaza Strip, and the Euro-Mediterranean University (Euromed-UM) in Fes, as well as programs to empower women to participate fully in economic life. He highlighted that “the projects and initiatives that the Union for the Mediterranean is developing will enhance job creation, promote young entrepreneurship and increase regional economic integration in the Mediterranean”.

French Minister Marylise Lebranchu reiterated the French Government’s full commitment and support to the actions and projects developed by UfM Secretariat. She stressed on the importance of local, regional and national public administration training in the development of international cooperation projects in the Mediterranean, as well as on the need of involvement of local and regional actors. The Minister and the Secretary General have agreed on ways to develop their collaboration during the next weeks.

 

 

Réunion de travail avec la Ministre française Marylise Lebranchu au siège de l’Union pour la Méditerranée

Les relations entre la France et l’Union pour la Méditerranée et le développement d’une coopération opérationnelle pour mettre en œuvre des projets concrets dans la région Méditerranéenne ont été les principaux sujets de discussion entre le Secrétaire Général de l’UpM, Fathallah Sijilmassi, et la Ministre française de la Réforme de l’Etat, de la Décentralisation et de la Fonction publique, Mme Marylise Lebranchu.

 

Barcelone, le 23 novembre 2012. – Le Secrétaire Général de l’UpM, Fathallah Sijilmassi, a accueilli la Ministre française de la Réforme de l’Etat, de la Décentralisation et de la Fonction publique, Marylise Lebranchu, au siège de l’Union pour la Méditerranée à Barcelone. Les deux parties ont discuté des moyens susceptibles de renforcer la coopération entre les deux rives de la Méditerranée. Ils ont convenu de l’importance de délivrer des projets qui répondent aux besoins des populations Méditerranéennes en termes de création d’emploi et de développement socio-économique.

Le Secrétaire Général Sijilmassi a informé la Ministre des récents développements des travaux du Secrétariat dans plusieurs secteurs économiques clés pour l’avenir de la région et sur les projets et initiatives tels que l’Initiative Méditerranéenne pour l’Emploi (Med4jobs), l’Axe autoroutier Trans-Maghrébin et l’Usine de Désalinisation pour la Bande de Gaza, l’Université Euro-Méditerranéenne (Euromed-UM) de Fez et les projets en soutien de l’implication des femmes dans la vie économique. Il a souligné que « les projets et initiatives que développe actuellement l’Union pour la Méditerranée sont susceptibles de stimuler la création d’emploi, la promotion de l’entrepreneuriat pour les jeunes et l’accélération de l’intégration économique régionale en Méditerranéenne ».

Mme Lebranchu a réitéré le fort engagement du gouvernement français en soutien aux actions et projets développés par le Secrétariat de l’UpM. Elle a souligné l’importance de la formation des fonctions publiques nationales et territoriales au développement de projets internationaux de coopération  en Méditerranée et la nécessaire implication des collectivités territoriales et des acteurs locaux. La Ministre et le Secrétaire général ont décidé des moyens de développer leur collaboration dans les prochaines semaines.
