Jordan, 2 November, 2013. Jordan Forum for Business & Professional Women (JFBPW) conducted on November 2nd 2013, the first Women Entrepreneurship Day (WED) in Amman, continuing thus the implementation of the Union for the Mediterranean labelled project “Young Women as Job Creators”, promoted by the Association of Organisations of Mediterranean Businesswomen (AFAEMME).
The workshop was attended by some 30 young women and male students from 6 partner Jordanian universities. It was opened by the President of the Forum Mrs. Reem Barghouty, who explained the major concept of the project and the goal of the WED. The Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Dr. Heike Harmgart, attended the official opening of the WED, explaining the importance of such initiatives in supporting young university students in setting up their businesses and the opportunities that the European Bank provides to support young entrepreneurs.
The workshop provided the students with an opportunity to share their dreams and concerns about their future business ideas, focusing not only on profit but also on fulfilling the need of their communities. Two local businesswomen served as Role Models, sharing their experiences about their projects, their journey and the challenges, providing participants with their advice and responding to their business creation-related questions. The participants were furthermore informed of the type of loans they can receive for the development of their future business ideas. Divided in 6 groups based on their interest and common ideas, the students worked on developing their business ideas. Finally, the students were offered by the JFBPW the opportunity of free advice and connection with local business women.
Jordan Forum for Business & Professional Women will host additional WEDs on all Saturdays during November 2013.
