Leveraging best practices to promote youth employment and decent work in the UfM Region
- The 10th meeting of the UfM Community of Practice on Youth Employment saw the last brushstrokes on a charter that presents a comprehensive framework meant to guide youth employment initiatives in the Southern Mediterranean.
- Since its first edition in 2018, the UfM Stakeholders Dialogue has become a regular gathering of multiple stakeholders from both shores of the UfM region to discuss best practices and success stories in the fields of job creation, skill development, matching and startup support.
Aswan, 15-17 December 2024. The UfM, together with the German Development Cooperation, organized the fourth edition of the UfM Med4Jobs Stakeholders Dialogue on 15 December 2024 in Aswan, Egypt. The Med4jobs Stakeholders Dialogue which brought together 70 participants was inaugurated by the President of Aswan University Prof. Dr. Loay Nasrat and featured a scene setter by Deputy Governor of Aswan Eng. Amr Lashin. The Dialogue focused on three inter-related thematics, namely green transition, rural development through decent work, and labour mobility in the digital age. The sessions featured speakers from a broad spectrum of backgrounds, including project promoters and implementing partners from UfM -labelled projects under Med4Jobs as well as from the two UfM Grant Schemes dedicated to employment.
The Dialogue, co-funded by the European Commission (DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion), benefitted from the support of the Governorate of Aswan and was hosted by the Om Habibeh Foundation (an affiliate of the Aga Khan Development Network). The Dialogue was followed back-to-back on 16-17 December 2024 by the 10th Meeting of the UfM Community of Practice on Youth Employment in the Southern Mediterranean.
The 10th meeting of the Community of Practice on Youth Employment in the Southern Mediterranean was held over two days and included a field visit to a women-led association (Al-Nour Association for Community Development), in addition to focused discussions dedicated to the Charter meant to serves as a comprehensive framework to guide youth employment initiatives in the Southern Mediterranean. The Charter emphasizes the importance of equipping young people with the skills necessary to navigate the rapidly changing job market, addressing key challenges while capitalizing on emerging opportunities, particularly those presented by the digital and green transitions.
Launched in 2013, the Mediterranean Initiative for Jobs (Med4Jobs) is a UfM flagship project-based, cross-sectoral initiative, that has eventually become a pipeline of projects addressing a broad spectrum of employment-related challenges in the UfM Region with over 100,000 beneficiaries, mostly young people and women, in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean.
