The Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes starts cooperation with the University of Paris 1 Panthéon – Sorbonne

Rabat, 17 February 2016. The Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Executive Training of Morocco, Mr. Lahcen Daoudi, and the Chancellor of the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes (UEMF), Mr. Mohammed Kabbaj, have chaired the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes (UEMF) and the University of Paris 1 Panthéon – Sorbonne (Sorbonne – Paris 1).

In this context, the President of the UEMF, Mr. Mostapha Bousmina, and the Vice-President of Paris-Sorbonne 1, Mr. Jean-Marc Bonnisseau, signed a partnership convention in the fields of higher education, scientific research and culture.

In particular, collaboration between both Universities will commence with the co-creation of the Sorbonne Euro-Mediterranean Political Science, an institute of political science which will be inaugurated within the UEMF at the beginning of the 2016-2017 academic year.

This institute, with Euro-Mediterranean vocation, aims at becoming a higher education and research center of excellence in the areas of political science, governance, business law and Euro-Mediterranean public law which will deliver a double degree recognized by both the Moroccan and French States. The pedagogical team of the new institute will be composed of professors from the UEMF, the political science department of the Sorbonne – Paris 1 and other Euro-Mediterranean partner institutions.

The UEMF is a project labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean in 2012, which reinforces the integration between the two shores of the Mediterranean through regional dialogue, intercultural exchange, and cooperation with regards to higher education, research and innovation.  Youth Employability and Inclusive Growth remain one of the main priorities of the UfM Secretariat. Delivering a high standard of multilingual education and promoting youth mobility in the region will contribute to the long term goal of improving employability and enhancing regional development.
