UfM and Türkiye COP31 Presidency advance Mediterranean climate dialogue ahead of Climate Conference in Antalya
30 July 2026. As preparations intensify for COP31 in Antalya this November, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the Türkiye COP31 Presidency are bringing together governments, businesses, researchers, financial institutions, civil society and youth across the region through the Antalya Mediterranean Climate Dialogue, a series of seven high-level national consultations designed to strengthen Mediterranean cooperation on climate action.
Launched in Rabat on 8 July, the Dialogue has since convened consultations in Cairo, Paris, Madrid and Rome, Algiers with a meetings in Amman set to complete the regional process. Hosted by Turkish embassies in partnership with national ministries and coordinated by the UfM, each consultation identifies national climate priorities, implementation challenges and opportunities for regional cooperation aligned with the COP31 Action Agenda.
The initiative reflects the growing urgency of climate action in a region warming around 20% faster than the global average. Rather than negotiating common positions, the Dialogue provides a platform for Mediterranean stakeholders to exchange perspectives, identify shared priorities and promote practical cooperation ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference.
The seven consultations will produce individual National Reports that will be consolidated into a Mediterranean Synthesis Note, presenting regional priorities, flagship initiatives and a pipeline of cooperation opportunities. The Synthesis Note will first be presented at the Oceans and Sea event and subsequently discussed during a Ministerial Roundtable at COP31 in Antalya, jointly chaired by the COP31 Presidency and the UfM Secretary General.
The Dialogue also feeds into the UfM’s broader climate agenda. Alongside preparations for the Mediterranean Pavilion at COP31 and the development of the Mediterranean Climate Action Plan, it aims to ensure that the region’s shared challenges and solutions are reflected more prominently in global climate discussions while strengthening long-term cooperation through the UfM Climate Action Working Group.
