EMUNI University appoints new president

Higher Education & Research

Barcelona, 10 March, 2014. Prof. Dr. Abdelhamid El-Zoheiry has been recently appointed as the new president of the EMUNI University, replacing the current acting President Prof. Dusan Lesjak.  Prof. El-Zoheiry is from Egypt and graduated from Medical School, Cairo University in 1985.  Since 2004 he holds the title of Professor and is the director of the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at the Cairo University Faculty of Medicine.

In the past ten years, Prof. El-Zoheiry has acquired extensive experience with International higher education and research institutions.  In 2010, he founded and organized the first Euro-Mediterranean Innovation Market Place and Science Forum, considered a regional platform for science and innovation stakeholders and policy makers. Since 2006, he has been working at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt as the International Cooperation Advisor for the Minister and from 2007 -2012 as the Executive Director of the Research Development and Innovation Programme.

EMUNI is promoter of the UfM-labelled project, Euro-Mediterranean Master and PhD programmes. The project will be implemented at Universities which are part of the EMUNI network and will contribute to the mobility of students, professors and researchers from both rims of the Mediterranean. The programmes will focus on priority topics or areas which have an important impact on the development of the Euro-Mediterranean region.

About EMUNI

Established in the frame of the Declaration of the Paris Summit for the Mediterranean (Paris, 13th July 2008), the EMUNI University is an international network of over 200 universities with headquarters in Slovenia. The main mission of the EMUNI University is to strengthen mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue among Euro-Mediterranean countries by implementing postgraduate study and research programmes, which will significantly contribute towards the development of Higher Education, Science and Research.
