ERANETMED Launches its First Joint Research Call for Project Proposals on Renewable Energies, Water Resources and the Energy-Water Nexus

Higher Education & Research

Barcelona, 6 November 2014. Higher education and research institutions, companies and other legal entities such as NGOs from Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Jordan, Greece, Germany, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Apulia Region (Italy), Tunisia, Turkey and Spain are invited to participate in ERANETMED’s call for research project proposals on the themes and topics specified below.

Under the EU 7th Framework Programme, the Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation through ERANET Joint Activities and Beyond (ERANETMED) project aims to enhance Euro-Mediterranean co-ownership between Northern and Southern Mediterranean countries with regards cooperation in research and innovation. ERANETMED’s objective is to reduce the fragmentation of research programmes and avoid duplication by increasing coordination between the National Research Programmes of EU Member States, Associated Countries and Mediterranean Partner Countries so as to better address some of the major challenges of the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Project proposals shall cover only one of the following themes and at least one respective topic:
• Renewable energies and energy efficiency
– Hybrid renewable energy system integration
– Smart Micro-grids
– Renewable energy and energy efficiency for smart and rural communities

• Water resources management
– Integrated water management from the catchment to coastal zone
– Integrated water use efficiency
– Water reuse in agriculture
– Water desalination

• Energy-water nexus (trans-disciplinary theme)

Project proposals shall also address various actions (collaborative research, innovation, capacity building and mobility) and take into account different cross-cutting issues (socio-economic, governance, ICT and gender equality). They should include a minimum of three partners from different countries, with at least one from the European Union and one from the Southern Mediterranean countries.

The total budget allocated for this call for project proposals is €13,720,000. It is co-funded by the following Euro-Mediterranean countries: Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Jordan, Greece, Germany, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Apulia Region (Italy), Tunisia, Turkey and Spain.

Higher education and research institutions, companies, and other legal entities such as NGOs from the aforementioned countries are eligible for funding, unless otherwise specified in the national rules of funding agencies.
