EU: Schulz. – The Union for the Mediterranean is a “unique opportunity” for the development of trade between southern Europe and Northern Africa
Brussels, 23rd May 2012. During a press conference at the margins of the informal summit of the members of the European Council, the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, stated that the European Union (EU) should start a debate on the development and cooperation opportunities with Northern African countries. In his words: “Why the EU mainly focuses on Greece and not on the cooperation with the Maghreb countries undergoing change?”. Schulz also added: “It would be wise for Europe to discuss also about the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), which constitutes an exceptional opportunity for the development of trade between southern Europe and northern Africa”.
