UfM Conference on “Enhancing MSMEs resilience in face of future shocks”

Economic Development and Employment

Cyprus, September/October 2022 – The Union for the Mediterranean Secretariat, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Cyprus and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) will organize a two-day UfM Conference on “enhancing MSMEs resilience in face of future shocks” in Cyprus in September/October 2022 (exact city and dates will be determined soon).

Given their key role in job creation and economic development, the UfM Secretariat has always been committed to the promotion of MSMEs in the Mediterranean region through the implementation of concrete projects and holding multi-stakeholder dialogue platforms, acting upon its relevant guiding documents.

This upcoming event will provide a unique opportunity for best practices and innovative ideas sharing on how to make MSMEs more resilient in face of future shocks in a rapidly changing landscape. It will build upon the lessons learned from the unprecedented pandemic crisis in terms of its impact on MSMEs and the policy measures that have been taken to address it.

Prominent speakers and active participants from various backgrounds from the Mediterranean region, who will be discussing the most effective solutions and best practices on how to support MSMEs, so they can thrive in normal times and weather potential shocks in the future. The discussions will aim to address, inter alia, the following questions:

  • Why do MSMEs matter for the economy of the region?
  • What has been the impact of Covid-19 on MSMEs?
  • What policy measures have been adopted to support MSMEs during the crisis and how effective have been they?
  • What can be done to make MSMEs more resilient in case of future shocks?
  • How can international cooperation contribute in this endeavour?

In terms of target participants, this Conference will be intended for representatives of Governments, International/Regional Organizations, private sector, civil Society and academia involved in private sector development.

The UfM Secretariat can sponsor up to 40 eligible participants (transport and accommodation).
