Nicosia Risk Forum 2024
4-5 December 2024, Nicosia, Cyprus. Organized by CERIDES in close cooperation with the UfM, the Nicosia Risk Forum 2024 (NRF2024) convene a diverse range of stakeholders, including academic, industrial, governmental, policy, and societal representatives, working in the fields of Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).
Key Highlights of the Forum:
- Work Sessions: Focused on strengthening disaster preparedness capacities within the European region, including UCPM (Union Civil Protection Mechanism) exercises and capacity-building activities.
- Full-Scale Risk Exercises: Addressing various risks and scenarios through cross-border and international collaboration.
- Support for UN Agencies: Showcasing synergies between global and regional efforts in disaster risk reduction.
UfM Regional Platform on Civil Protection
As part of NRF2024, the UfM hosts the 3rd Meeting of the Regional Platform on Civil Protection, bringing together Civil Protection authorities from across the Euro-Mediterranean region to continue the Collaborative Engagement Exercise launched in 2019.
This meeting provides a platform to:
- Share Data and Solutions: Facilitate situational analysis, data sharing, and the framing of strategies under the UfM Action Plan on Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Management 2030.
- Situation Analysis: Collect data to develop a comprehensive overview of the current state of Civil Protection efforts (e.g., Annex I information).
- Knowledge Exchange: Promote the sharing of initiatives, results, and best practices among UfM Member States to encourage mutual learning and application.
Signing of a New Memorandum of Understanding (MoU):
The forum also marks the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UfM and the European University Cyprus, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest, particularly in the field of Civil Protection.
This collaborative event underscores the UfM’s commitment to advancing disaster resilience, preparedness, and regional cooperation across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
