III MedThink 5+5 Forum in Algiers: Common Challenges, Shared Management
Algiers, 25-27 June 2018. The III MedThink 5+5 Forum will be held in Algiers next 25-27 June 2018 under the title “Human Development as a Driver of Cooperation in the 5+5 Dialogue”. The third edition of the Forum, co-organised by the Union for the Mediterranean, the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and in collaboration with the Algerian National Institute of Strategic Global Studies (NISGS), will bring together more than forty experts and representatives of think tanks and diplomatic institutions from the Member States of the 5+5 Dialogue.
Following the successful accomplishment of the last two Forums in Barcelona and Lisbon in 2016 and 2017, this edition of the conference will gather high-level policy makers and experts in a multidisciplinary debate on the current common concerns of the 5+5 Dialogue countries with a view to strengthening cooperation between the two shores of the Western Mediterranean. Moreover, its celebration in the Algerian capital constitutes a decisive turning point for a North-South rotation that is meant to continue in the future.
This annual meeting aims since 2016 to set a targeted agenda around key aspects for the Western Mediterranean. Shared and sustainable development as an answer to face the common challenges in the region. Intra-regional mobility, the security-development binomial, the role of youth, cooperation against terrorism and radicalisation and the energy-water-food security triangle will be some of the main topics of discussion.
