Meeting of UfM Secretary General and Italian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs: Italy continues commitment towards a better Mediterranean
28 July 2021, Rome. UfM Secretary General Nasser Kamel and Italian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Marina Sereni met in Rome today to discuss Italy’s ongoing collaboration in Euro-Mediterranean cooperation and development.
The meeting, which focused on the strategic importance of the Mediterranean for the future of Europe, highlighted Italy’s work not only within its mandate as a UfM member but also in the implementation of the EU New Agenda for the Mediterranean, its Economic and Investment Plan, and the external dimension of the EU Green Deal. Topics such as Blue Economy, the UfM’s upcoming Environment and Climate Action Ministerial meeting, and the UfM’s Regional Integration Report were at the core of this exchange. Digital transformation, job promotion and investment, women’s empowerment in science and civil protection, the post-pandemic future of the region, and how can Italy and the UfM work together to achieve their goals in these areas were also touched upon.
Minister Sereni has collaborated with the UfM before, having participated in the 25 Med Voices campaign, launched on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Barcelona Process.
