UfM Secretary General, Nasser Kamel, holds talks with the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sabri Boukadoum

Barcelona, 19 November 2020 – On the occasion of a phone call, Nasser Kamel, UfM Secretary General, and Sabri Boukadoum, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, had an exchange on the state of preparation for the Fifth UfM Regional Forum and the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Barcelona Process, to be commemorated on 25-27 November 2020.

The state of play of the cooperation between Algeria and the UfM Secretariat as well as the prospects of its reinforcement were also discussed by both sides.

In this framework, Nasser Kamel stressed the pivotal role of Algeria in the Mediterranean space and the major contribution of its diplomacy to the peaceful resolution of the conflicts in the region.

Moreover, he expressed his satisfaction regarding Algeria’s active and qualitative participation to the last UfM activities organised as part of the regional efforts to address effectively the negative repercussions of the pandemic induced crisis that has unfortunately aggravated pre-existing challenges.

From his part, Sabri Boukadoum praised the above mentioned UfM efforts in the context of the current crisis and renewed Algeria’s commitment to work together with the UfM Secretariat towards the consolidation of their relations, for the benefit of both parties.

Finally, it should be noted that a visit of the Secretary General to Algeria is planned and will be concretized as soon as the sanitary conditions at the global level permit it.
