
14th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the UfM (PA-UfM)
28-29 April 2018, Cairo. The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) participated in the 5th Summit of Presidents of Parliament and the 14th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the UfM (PA-UfM), which took place in Cairo on 28-29 April.
The annual gathering of the 280 members of the Parliamentary Assembly, that marks the end of the Egyptian Presidency, focused its debates on the important topic of “Counter-terrorism in the Euro-Mediterranean region”, and on the ways Parliamentarians of the three shores of the Mediterranean can contribute to the prevention of violent extremism that leads to terrorism.
UfM Acting Secretary General Jorge Borrego presented the Parliamentary Assembly with an overview of the activities, initiatives and projects developed and supported by the UfM, recalling members on the importance to develop cohesive and comprehensive policies that focus on the root-causes of instability, inequality and underdevelopment.
The Union for the Mediterranean’s mission is to enhance regional cooperation, dialogue and the implementation of projects and initiatives with tangible impact on our citizens, with an emphasis on young people and women, in order to address the three strategic objectives of the region: stability, human development and integration. Regional dialogue and cooperation are key elements for Regional Security.
