Palestinian Women Entrepreneurship Day successfully held in Ramallah
More than 100 young women students attended the first Palestinian Women Entrepreneurship Day, which took place at the Ramallah Chamber of Commerce and Industry as part of the activities implemented within the framework of the UfM Project ‘Young Women as Job Creators’ launched earlier this year. The participants came from three local higher education institutions, the Birzeit University, the Palestinian Technical College for Girls, and the Women Society College. The workshop provided the participants with a valuable opportunity to work actively with local role models and business development trainers in an effort to increase their motivation, and to develop their initial business ideas and plans, including key financial aspects.
The meeting was opened by Ms. Hilda Awwad, the President of the Business and Professional Women Ramallah Club, the local Palestinian partner in the project. The Union for the Mediterranean Deputy Secretary General Ms. Delphine Borione highlighted the benefits for the young students of receiving such workshops, described UfM activities for developing socio-economic empowerment of women in the region, and informed the participants of the project conference to be held in March 2014 in Barcelona, Spain, as a follow up to the UfM Ministerial Declaration on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society, held on 12 September 2013 in Paris.
