Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) takes place in Vilnius, Lithuania
3 October 2013 – For the first time in the Nordic and Baltic countries, Lithuania, the current President of the EU Council, hosts a Meeting of the Senior Officials of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) on 3-4 October. The meeting discussed issues important for the Euro-Mediterranean region.
During the meetings in Vilnius, representatives of the 43 Member States, as well as the Arab League and the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, discussed the most important regional issues.
Representatives of participating countries and international organizations assessed outcomes of the Union for the Mediterranean Conference on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society, which was held in Paris, and discussed preparations for the UfM ministerial meetings on energy and transport.
Two new regional projects were labeled, namely the ‘Generation Enterpreneuer’ and the ‘Integrated Programme for Protection of the Lake Bizerte against Pollution’, and a new Deputy Secretary General for the Water and Environment Division was elected.
