UfM Secretary General Kamel hold talks with the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Othman Eljerandi
Barcelona, 28 October 2020. During today’s phone call with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisian Abroad of the Republic of Tunisia, Othman Eljerandi, the UfM Secretary General Nasser Kamel congratulated Tunisia for the successful 16th Meeting of the Foreign Affairs Ministers of the Western Mediterranean (5+5 Dialogue), hosted virtually by Tunisia, and for the role played by Tunisian diplomacy during his actual mandate at the UN Security Council.
UfM Secretary General Kamel stressed the importance of regional cooperation, dialogue and the implementation of projects in order to address the three objectives of the region: stability, human development and integration. Secretary General Kamel also highlighted the importance of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation and the UfM role in facing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially this year in sight of the upcoming UfM Regional Forum and the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Barcelona Process, to be commemorated on 25-27 November 2020.
From his part, the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated Tunisian’s commitment to the UfM through its effective presence in all meetings and activities of the Organization and its engagement to continue to work closely with the UfM.
Moreover, the UfM Secretary General recalled the importance of Tunisia as a key player in the Mediterranean, as well as its central role in the entire Euro-Mediterranean process from the beginning.
Finally, a visit of the UfM Secretary General to Tunis was also proposed to take place as soon as conditions allow it.
