The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean will hold the Mediterranean Economic Conference in Tunis, on 17 and 18 September, 2013. The conference, co-organized with the Government of Tunisia, will focus on the theme of ‘Employment and Territorial Development’, offering a platform for reflection, exchange of experiences and definition of strategies as well as actions to address the unemployment challenge in the Southern Mediterranean.
In line with the current political, economic and social climate, the first edition of the Mediterranean Economic Conference will reflect on pressing issues such as employment opportunities for youth and women or the promotion of local development. It will also see the launch of the Mediterranean Initiative for Jobs (Med4Jobs), promoted by the UfM Secretariat in response to the structural challenges in the region.
The event will bring together high level representatives from European Institutions (EEAS, European Commission, European Parliament, etc.), government officials and ministers from the Mediterranean region, representatives of regional and national organisations, influential practitioners in the area of local development and job creation, as well as intergovernmental organisations, international financial institutions and business leaders from the banking sector and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
