UfM and MEDPorts launch award recognising the Mediterranean’s most resilient port
15 July 2026, Barcelona – The Union for the Mediterranean and the MEDPorts Association have launched the first “Mediterranean Most Resilient Port of the Year” Award, a new annual initiative recognising ports that demonstrate leadership, innovation and preparedness in responding to disruptions affecting maritime transport and logistics.
Mediterranean ports operate in an increasingly complex environment shaped by climate change, geopolitical tensions, economic volatility, cyber risks, energy disruptions and rapidly evolving technologies. The award aims to place resilience at the centre of port planning and investment, while showcasing practical approaches that can strengthen operational continuity, regional connectivity and supply-chain reliability.
Applications will be assessed through a multidimensional approach covering infrastructure robustness, crisis management, digitalisation and cybersecurity, energy transition preparedness, stakeholder coordination, environmental resilience and long-term investment strategies. By highlighting effective measures already implemented by Mediterranean ports, the initiative will also support the exchange of knowledge and replicable practices across the region.
The call is open to commercial seaports located in the Mediterranean region. Port authorities and port management bodies may submit applications demonstrating concrete resilience-related projects, measures or strategies. MEDPorts members can apply directly, while non-member ports may participate by submitting a membership application alongside their award entry.
Applications must be submitted by 31 October 2026. Following the evaluation process, the winning port will be announced during the award ceremony on 26 November 2026.
