The UfM Secretariat will host the UfM regional meeting on higher education internationalisation and academic mobility in the Euro-Mediterranean area on 15 December 2016 in UfM Secretariat in Barcelona.
The meeting will bring together representatives from UfM Member States, the European Union and key relevant actors and stakeholders with the objective of strengthening cooperation and synergies on this evolving issue in view of amplifying quality partnerships between educational institutions throughout the Mediterranean and enhancing further North-South, South-North as well as South-South academic mobility, at a time when the need for mutual understanding and youth opportunities has never been so pressing in the region.
OBJECTIVES OF THE MEETING
- Improving shared knowledge and understanding of internationalisation trends and policies in the region as well as of current mobility flows and available funding schemes.
- Facilitating continuous peer learning among UfM countries on policies and practices addressing common challenges and priorities, such as intra-regional mobility, recognition of qualifications, quality assurance, brain circulation, as well as more recent issues related to migrant and refugee students and to the privatisation trends in cross-border education.
- Fostering the implementation of joint projects and initiatives and shape a regional strategy on higher education internationalisation and academic mobility in the Euro-Mediterranean area reinforcing regional integration.
This first meeting will result in sketching an overview of the situation in the region; agreeing on regional needs and priority topics of common interest; promoting successful initiatives; reinforcing the involvement of UfM countries in related UfM labelled projects; and adopting a methodology for further cooperation. It will lead to the preparation of an UfM regional dialogue process on these issues.
