UfM welcomes Commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaard

Barcelona, 19 April, 2013. On 18 April, the European Commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaard, visited the headquarters of the UfM in the framework of a working mission to Spain. Commissioner Hedegaard was welcomed by Ambassador Sotiris Varouxakis, UfM Deputy Secretary General for Energy, and Mario Mariani, Executive Director for Projects.

During her working visit, the UfM Secretariat presented to the Commissioner the advancement of UfM projects directly related to her portfolio, including the Mediterranean Solar Plan and initiatives related to environment, water and climate change. The promotion of renewable energies and climate change adaptation and mitigation policies were also discussed in detail during the Commissioner’s visit.

Participants reaffirmed the joint commitment to further improve the coordination and complementarity between the work of the Commission services in charge of climate issues and the projects and initiatives of the Union for the Mediterranean.
