Workshop: “Women’s economic participation and ICT in the Mediterranean: constraints and opportunities”

The UfM Secretariat will organise an operational workshop on 26 March 2015 entitled: “Women’s economic participation and ICT in the Mediterranean: constraints and opportunities”. The event will bring together representatives from international and regional organisations, donors and development agencies, the private sector, civil society organisations and experts to identify the barriers and constraints that hinder women’s participation in the digital market while exploring the opportunities offered by the sector. The workshop discussion will also focus on proposing concrete suggestions for specific follow-up actions and ways to enhance women’s employment and entrepreneurship in the ICT sector.
This workshop will be the first step for the creation of a regional platform of dialogue and coordination between key stakeholders active in this field. This platform will promote networking, create links and identify opportunities among its participants to enhance women’s participation in the sector and thus contribute to an effective increase in their economic participation.
The meeting is being held under the framework of the Conclusions of the UfM Third Ministerial Conference on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society, and as a contribution to the Beijing+20 process.
