Discussions focused on the developments made on the four components of the Strategy since the second meeting, held in Barcelona last 25 May 2012. The work is advancing successfully towards the completion of the Strategy.

The award rewards the joint activity of the UfM, the Center for Transport Studies of the Western Mediterranean (CETMO) and the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED) to raise awareness of the project and build the project framework.

The six-year-term project will focus during the first phase on the training activities at the intermodal platforms in Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia, which will be in operation in 2015, and it will result in a more competitive and efficient network of Euro-Mediterranean logistic platforms.

Further working meetings will be held in the coming months between the UfM Secretariat and German ministries, governmental agencies, think tanks as well as the private sector.

Jonathan Walters, Director of Regional Programs and Partnerships at the World Bank, visited the premises of the UfM Secretariat and held talks with UfM sectorial divisions to explore new opportunities of cooperation between both institutions.

The Tunisian Government is currently working on a new renewable energy strategy and announced a precise target to achieve: 30 % of renewable energy in the electricity mix by 2030.

This cooperation is enshrined in the overall approach of the Mediterranean Solar Plan, promoted by the UFM.

Two chapters of the Mediterranean Solar Plan (MSP) were discussed in the margins of the Sustainable Energy Week.

TUNIS (TAP) – Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalem announced, on Thursday, that Tunisia is to host, next October or November, a conference on investment with the support of the Union For the Mediterranean (UFM).

The UfM Euro-Mediterranean Sustainable Urban Development Strategy Second Senior Official Experts (SOEs) Meeting was held in Barcelona on 25th May 2012 with the participation of 8 countries and 14 institutions.
