The role of research and technology infrastructures in science diplomacy

28 October 2026, Allan, Jordan. The European Commission, in cooperation with SESAME, UNESCO and the UfM, will organise a symposium at SESAME in Allan, Jordan, bringing together scientists, diplomats and other stakeholders to explore how research and technology infrastructures can support international cooperation, trust-building and science diplomacy.

Discussions will address science diplomacy in an increasingly fragmented international context, the role of research infrastructures in cooperation and peacebuilding, their contribution to competitiveness, and the future of SESAME. Young researchers will also present examples of research carried out at SESAME.

UfM Deputy Secretary General Petra Kežman will participate in the opening session, while UfM Research and Innovation Lead Giuseppe Provenzano will moderate a session on research and technology infrastructures as instruments of competitiveness.
