The UfM Secretariat aims to positively contribute towards sustainable urban development in the region by promoting innovative urban renewal, regeneration and development through specific urban projects and framework initiatives, such as the Euro-Mediterranean Urban Projects Finance Initiative (UPFI).

In the framework of the Union for the Mediterranean Senior Officials Meeting, the UfM Secretariat officially launched the Urban Projects Finance Initiative (UPFI). UPFI is the financial component of the ‘Euro-Mediterranean Sustainable Urban Development Strategy’, which aims to create a shared and common framework for the development of sustainable urban and territorial development strategies and projects.

The official launch of the Urban Project Finance Initiative is due to take place in the first half of 2014.
