As preparations intensify for COP31 in Antalya this November, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the Türkiye COP31 Presidency are bringing together governments, businesses, researchers, financial institutions, civil society and youth across the region through the Antalya Mediterranean Climate Dialogue, a series of seven high-level national consultations designed to strengthen Mediterranean cooperation on climate action. The four-day event brought together UfM Member States, institutional partners, scientific networks, financial institutions and technical organisations working on climate and environmental action, water resilience, energy transition, civil protection and disaster risk management. The consultation process for the Mediterranean Climate Action Plan (2027–2028) was launched during the week, with eight Member States providing initial input. The Plan is expected to be delivered in November 2026 at the Mediterranean Pavilion at COP31 Antalya. The Mediterranean is a climate hotspot, warming about 20% faster than the global average, and it is among the most plastic‑polluted seas worldwide. One third of the population lives in coastal areas, where sea levels rise by 2.8 mm per year. Without accelerated climate action, up to 20 million people could face permanent displacement by 2100.
