Sustainable Blue Economy Conference
26-28 November, Nairobi. Kenya will host the High-Level Conference on Sustainable Blue Economy from November 26-28, 2018 in Nairobi. The Principal Secretary, Mr. Macharia Kamau, said that the Conference follows the announcement by President Uhuru Kenyatta, during the Third Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly held in Nairobi last year.
Over 4,000 participants from around the world are expected to meet and learn how to build a blue economy that harnesses the potential of our oceans, seas, lakes and rivers to improve the lives of all, and leverages the latest innovations, scientific advances and best practices to build prosperity while conserving our waters for future generations. The Conference aims to capture concrete commitments and practical actions that can be taken today to help the world transition to the blue economy.
In the framework of the Conference, the side event “TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE AND INCLUSIVE BLUE ECONOMY IN THE MEDITERRANEAN REGION” will be held on 28 November. The side event – jointly prepared by the Barcelona Convention Secretariat, including its Plan Bleu Regional Activity Centre, the Union for the Mediterranean Secretariat, and WWF Med – will showcase how the Blue Economy concept is implemented in the Mediterranean region and countries, both from a policy perspective (governance and institutional framework) and from an operational point of view (partnerships, best practices).
