Barcelona, 1 April 2014. UfM Secretary General, Fathallah Sijilmassi, together with Mr. Claudio Cortese, UfM Deputy Secretary General, participates today in the 13th ECOFIN/FEMIP Ministerial Meeting in Athens.
The Meeting will be co-chaired by Mr Yannis Stournaras, Minister of Finance, Hellenic Republic; Mr Werner Hoyer, President of the EIB; and Mr Philippe de Fontaine Vive, Vice-President of the EIB, in charge of the Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Facility for Investment and Partnership (FEMIP).
The Meeting will address two main issues, namely the challenges and levers for sustainable growth (with a focus on Investing in the Mediterranean region three years after the Arab Spring), and the EIB Strategy for the Mediterranean (Roadmap 2020). Fostering growth and job creation, especially for young people will be a key aspect of these discussions. Additional topics will include how the Bank can further strengthen and diversify its instruments in support of the private sector and explore further opportunities for climate action in the region.
The Meeting will mark the signing of a renewed MoU between the UfMS and EIB to further consolidate the already existing partnership and give an additional impetus to projects aimed at unleashing the region’s growth potential.
