– The First Regional Conference of the UfM-labelled project “Governance & Financing for the Mediterranean Water Sector”, held in Athens, brought together water specialists and key stakeholders and complemented the successfully completed national work carried out in Jordan and Tunisia during the first phase.

– The project aims to improve public governance and attract investment to the Mediterranean region’s water sector.

• During a two-day meeting held at the headquarters of the UfM Secretariat on 13-14 October, the first gathering of the UfM Climate Change Expert Group (UfM CCEG) marked an initial vital step towards setting the Mediterranean agenda against climate change.

• The meeting took place as a direct follow-up to the UfM Ministerial Meeting on Environment and Climate Change, held in Athens on 13 May 2014.

UfM representatives presented to the international community the Desalination Facility Project as a priority water intervention for the Gaza Strip. The presentation took place at the Cairo International Conference on Palestine and Reconstructing Gaza.

• The UfM Secretariat participated in the UN Climate Summit 2014, organised by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

• The Summit brought together world leaders from governments, finance, business and civil society, to champion an ambitious vision and catalyse action against climate change.

• The first phase of the UfM-labelled project “Governance & Financing for the Mediterranean Water Sector” has been completed following successful policy dialogues in Jordan and Tunisia. The project aims to improve the public governance and attract investments to the water sector of the Mediterranean region.

• The promoters GWP-Med and OECD organised workshops to launch national reports in Amman and Tunis, respectively. Stakeholders from the water and wastewater sector – authorities, utilities, donors, civil society, private sector, etc. – convened to discuss the report’s findings and recommendations based on the analytical work and series of consultation meetings held during the preceding ten months.
