The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), actively participates in COP24 in Poland, where it presents two studies on the impact of climate change and on the state of play of climate finance in the region. Without additional mitigation, regional temperature increase will be of 2.2°C in 2040, possibly exceeding 3.8°C in some regions in 2100. The UfM Secretariat and the Energy Federation of Morocco (Fédération de l’Energie) co-organized last Monday, 19 November, the 14th Energy Conference in Skhirat, under the High Patronage of His Majesty the King Mohamed VI, to promote regional dialogue towards a sustainable energy transition in the Mediterranean region. The region will be facing a 98% increase in energy demand by 2040. The challenge ahead lies in attracting energy investment to reinforce the transition towards a sustainable and resilient economy. Danielsson and Sijilmassi opened the 1st UfM Working Group on Environment and Climate Change, held in Palau de Pedralbes, Barcelona.
